Children

George H Coleman = Edith

Born about 1882, Ermington

Died 15 October 19665

I know of George from Treeby W Hingston who met him in March 1946 when researching his family history, and he seems to have been his main source on the family in Ermington. In the 1901 census his occupation is given as ' butchers son'. He is described as aged 19 and born in Ermington.

note

In the 1881 census George is described as grocer and draper (his father living with them as postmaster). No exact address is given but was presumably the shop.

This 1905 postcard from George shows the post office at Ermington, and it is presumably George himself or his father outside

Beside Mary's widowed sister the other member of the household was Emily J Pinwill, aged 21, born in Ermington and described as a general servant. We know that George later took over as sub-postmaster, presumably on the death of his father, and in the 1901 census he is described as butcher, grocer and sub-postmaster. Mary's sister is no longer listed but interestingly there is a new resident in the household, Mildred Crimp aged 23 who like Mary was born in Bigbury, a small village and probably not, therefore, a coincidence. The new domestic servant is one Maud B Rogers, born in Modbury, aged 18.
